Those of you who regularly read my inspiration posts will know that I cultivate a somewhat unhealthy obsession with lingerie.

Yes folks, I’ll admit it…my name is Lauren and I’m addicted to frilly knickers and lacy bras.

I can’t really pinpoint when this appreciation of beautiful smalls began but I do know that I often accompanied my mum on a regular basis to the most glorious boutique in Royal Leamington Spa.

It was here that I was introduced to Aubade and Cotton Club, Agent Provocateur and La Perla, that it was of vital importance to have a bra that actually fitted. My vocabulary expanded…balconettes and Brazilian briefs, thongs and French knickers, garters and bustiers and so by a process of osmosis I guess an appreciation of lingerie was instilled in me.

And so, as you can imagine, it was important to have some beautiful underwear for my wedding day. In fact, there’s something to be said about the combination of wedding dresses with wonderful lingerie…I for one discovered a chest I’d never seen before.

But I digress. You want to see the pictures don’t you… so let’s take a look.

A Full Set

I know from experience that a lot of brides worry not only about the dress itself but also what to wear underneath it.

You want your lingerie to be sturdy enough to provide you with curves in all the right places but not so robust that your guests are privy to every piece of wiring and boning underneath.

At RMW we’ve noticed a movement towards high-waisted knickers, balconette bras and strapless bodysuits in glorious coloured silks ranging from baby pinks to the softest nudes. These styles offer the perfect compromise between receiving enough ‘support’ without sacrificing anything on the style front either.

More brides are opting for the ‘complete set’ with suspender belts and stockings too. Now RMW-ettes, I’m curious. How many of you are intending to wear stockings with your wedding dress?

And lastly a word of advice…just be conscious about any straps that might work their way free from underneath your frock. It’s not something you want your photographs to capture on the big day…I speak from experience.

Playtime

Everybody loves playtime.

It’s the BEST time to be creative…to play make believe…to get your hands dirty.

Oh… I’ve gone all hot under the collar.

These midnight beauties are perhaps to be saved for night-time frolics rather than for your wedding breakfast with Great-Aunt Mabel. That said, I applaud any bride that takes the ‘Playtime’ approach with her wedding day lingerie.

I’m currently having a bit of a moment with bondage style lingerie and bodies. If selected in the right size they are utterly flattering and provide your body with sexy contours even when you have none…hell I know I don’t!

And what newly-wed groom can say no to a bride in fringed panties, or a velvet bodice I ask you? If you’re looking to spice things up further, then purchasing additional props such as this golden mask is the way to go.

Sweet Seductions

I won’t lie to you girls.

I saw this corseted, lacy number from Agent Provocateur in the middle of all these images here and swooned. Then I decided that I had to have it but I haven’t quite managed to scoop it into my clutches yet though.

Yet…

Aside from the coveting, the corset has inspired me to pull together this elixir of ‘sweet seductions’ for your perusal. Intended for the more romantic bride who perhaps doesn’t want to bare too much flesh, there are plenty of gorgeous details to keep you enthralled.

Dreamy and whimsical, you can just imagine wrapping these delicate two pieces into blue tissue paper and storing them away. We have dainty ribbons, whispers of lace, spaghetti straps and chiffon frills from arctic white to the softest of chamomile.

The beauty of this look is that you can wear these pieces under your wedding dress without worrying about a colour clash nor a VPL either.

Well that’s one less thing to worry about isn’t it.

The Final Flourish

Despite my love for lingerie, I can’t say that I’ve ever owned a silken robe or a decadent kimono.

This makes me sad – in fact I spent the majority of my wedding morning sporting… wait for it…double denim.

Hmmm, classy.

Not.

Looking back I wished that I’d bought something more alluring to lounge around in because if there’s ever a time to splash out on seductive ‘loungewear’ then your wedding day surely has to be it.

‘The Final Flourish’ is one trend that you’ll really get some long-term wear out of as well as providing a solid basis for several really gorgeous photographs too. I’m always slightly envious of those brides who choose to be shot in their gossamer light briefs with nothing else but their veil draped lovingly around them…they just look so beautiful.

Try thinking outside the box. If a voluminous robe isn’t really your thing, silky body suits, chiffon-light maxi-dresses and satin slips are equally as beautiful and transfer easily from wedding morning to night and all the way into your honeymoon too.

My particular favourite is this goddess maxi-dress from Ell & Cee. Isn’t it just delightful and so versatile too. You could even wear it over your bikini by the pool.

In fact, I’m wondering if the boy is reading this as I’d really like this for Christmas….

So folks, just how important is your wedding day underwear to you?

Are your smalls geered towards the structural support camp or influenced totally by frippery fancy?

Have any of you purchased something special for your wedding night?

As always girls (and boys) we want to hear what you have to say.

Romantic Decadence.

I’ve mentioned before that I was nearly a Charlotte Balbier bride – Kitty was in my final selection of “gowns I might just wear up the aisle”.

Well it turns out that Lolly La Pop was an actual Charlotte Balbier bride – she sashayed that foxy lacy frock like her life depended on it.

Madame Balbier recently sent us a very pretty shoot of her most recent “Romantic Decadence” collection, there are some lovely hair and make-up ideas for you lovelies to steal…as well as some beautiful blooms.

The dreamy dresses were photographed at a house called “Butterfly Bank” near Charlotte’s home in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. (One of my husband’s old haunts whilst we are on the subject.)

After hours spent musing over ambience versus style, setting and period, the perfect locations were found to compliment Charlotte’s latest art deco inspired collection.

Adam and I actually went to sunny Manchester a few months ago to see the collection on the catwalk, we were suitably impressed that Charlotte goes the extra mile to ensure her designs suit brides of all shapes, sizes and design desires.

(This trip also resulted in me with a bouquet in one hand, a goody bag in the other sat on a golf buggy laughing my head off at my own ridiculousness but that’s another story entirely.)

So as well as the shoot we thought we’d share with you some of Team RMW favourites from the selection of numbers on offer (And if it so takes your fancy please do share your wish list in the comments section at the bottom of this post.)

And my most favourite of all?

The Fern.

So swishy, so fairytale.

Can someone make this their Big Day dress please?

Go on, it would make my month.

In other news – I am very much loving this soft bronzed cheek/bright lipped look for W-day – do you?

Photography – Damian Brandon
Styling – Holly Cuthbert and Charlotte Balbier

If you are/were a Balbier bride like Lolly then please share – we’re a nosy ruddy bunch.

Clutch Me Close.

As I sit here writing this post for you gorgeous lot I realise I have run away with myself.

Again.

You see this post was meant to be more of a discussion piece; instead it seems to have turned into a shopping list for the millions of bags that I’m currently coveting.

Oops.

But I’ve taken the liberty of assuming that you won’t really mind feasting your eyes on the profusion of pretty that I’ve laid out for you below. Plus looking at a host of scrummy pictures might help to get your debating juices going – it’s a thought anyway.

And so to business.

Bags.

Jewel-encrusted clutches, big-day purses, oversized pocketbooks and glittery miniature totes. You name it, I probably want it. Whilst shoes, for many of you, are your downfall, bags are my kryptonite.

They make me go weak at the knees and I break out into a little pony-stamping dance if I see a piece of leathery goodness and I can’t have it. I am such a drama queen.

But….somewhat surprisingly, I went bag-less on my actual wedding day. I just couldn’t be doing with holding the bouquet and then a bag on top. Instead I left my essential valuables in my room and gave my lipgloss to my bridesmaids to hold.

This wasn’t my best move…but that’s another story.

So I want to hear what you think.

Have you purchased a wedding day clutch or will you relying on an old favourite? Perhaps, like me you’re choosing to opt out of the big day bag scenario because the thought of it is too much to bear.

Either way I’d love to hear your arguments – both for and against.

And whilst we’re discussing the finer points, here’s some delectable clutches to have a look at.

Metallic Maidens

I know. I know. I’m a broken record.

You’d have to be living under a rock to not be aware of the fact that I love all things golden so I just couldn’t miss the opportunity to mix my bag lust with my favourite colour palette.

In my defense there’s something about glittery, sparkly hues that scream PARTY!

Be it an oversized clutch, a sequin encrusted pouch or a miniature boxed case complete with jewels there’s pretty much something for everyone here.

Which brings me onto my second question…

For those of who will be appropriating a bag on your big day…how big do you go? How big is too big? How small can you go before it all seems a bit pointless because you can’t actually fit anything in apart from your lippy?

FYI my favourite golden clutch here is the Bottega Veneta although I’d probably have to remortgage my house to buy it.

Berry Burst

Admittedly you’d have to be a brave bride to opt for a huge bag in bright orange like this girlie at the top here. That said, I love a bride that makes a bold fashion statement on her big day.

I confess that this concoction of images is inspired by my current obsession with viburnum berries which take on an amazing metallically, petrol blue colour – hence the feathered teal clutch at the bottom. And then I just generally felt berry inspired (sorry I couldn’t resist!).

In all seriousness though there are so many evening bags in this colour spectrum that are available to purchase right now. I’m not sure whether it’s this time of year but it seems that all of my regular haunts are stocking clutches in reds, corals, oranges, yellows and pinks.

The world is your oyster my friends.

Don’t you just love the book inspired bag with the ‘once upon a time…’ inscription on the front. Perfect for the start of your new chapter together.

Feathers And Frills

….and studs and appliqué and mother of pearl and fur and tassels and pearls.

You name it, this board has it!

But when does so much become too much?

I’m in awe of the spiky number at the top here but I wouldn’t quite know how to hold it. For example, popping it under your arm is a definite no-no unless you want to spear yourself in the process.

I do love the frilly number in the middle too – perfect for a bride with a ruffled frock, it just oozes romance and could very easily be reused after the big day for other nights out.

Perhaps my favourite however is the circular tasseled bag and the feathered clutch which would suit girls wearing a 1920’s inspired frock on their big day. You can just imagine a fringed bride shimmying her way around the dancefloor to The Charleston whilst grasping one of these numbers.

Internal Workings

This last moodboard is not so much concerned with the bag itself but rather your perfect recipe for its contents.

What would you pack?

Having learnt from experience I strongly recommend that any bride keep a pack of tissues as close to her person as possible. If you’re anything like me then you’ll blubber your way down the aisle all the way to the speeches and then some more if you’re lucky.

Take it from me it’s best to keep some tissues on hand.

If you want to stay ahead in the style stakes then investing in some pretty paper for this purpose is the way to go. I wished that I’d come across these equestrian inspired tissues for my own big day; aren’t they gorgeous?

Any girl worth her salt knows that a perfectly applied lip is the keystone to a glamorous look. It makes sense then to not only include your favourite lippy and blusher but also a cutesy pocket mirror too – I’m in love with this mirror from Depeapa.

Hairgrips are handy too if you’re planning to go all out on the dancefloor. Make them glittery and fun or kitschy cute to ensure you look your very best.

And lastly, a girl can never have enough pocket mints – you want to make sure that you’re minty fresh for your new spouse don’t you?!

So will you be clutching a glitzy number on your wedding day or is this another bit of paraphernalia that you can really do without?

Who will be looking after your prized possessions instead?

Your chief bridesmaid or your mum?

I should also note at this stage that I am in no way responsible for any damage that may be inflicted upon your bank balance after viewing these clutches, purses and miniature totes.

Alternatively it might be worth leaving the laptop open at this page for ‘passers by’ in order to give them some inspiration for your Christmas presents.

Failing that there’s always Santa…but then that depends if you’ve been a good girl this year.

Have you?

Stripped Back To The Core.

Regardless of my personal faith, I never lose sight of the fact that Christmas is at it’s core, a religious celebration.

Strip away all of the tinsel, the gilded baubles and the inevitable extended consumerism and what you’re left with is a universal desire for joy, celebration and a prosperous New Year….and to give thanks to those we believe in.

Chloe Curry, the proprietor of The White Room in Sheffield sent me a styled fashion shoot recently, and in my three years of W-day blogging, I have never witnessed anything quite like it.

This is not because there is an abundance of unique DIY projects involved, a variety of the most exotic blooms or a particularly unusual location, no, it was because there was none of the above at all.

This event actually took place in a church, a magnificent architectural place of worship. There were just beautifully designed dresses and a minimal selection of statement accessories photographed in black and white, nothing more, nothing less.

Because as much as RMW is here to inspire you with the fancy and the frippery, we do appreciate that when you strip a wedding right back to it’s core it’s just about you, your boy and faith in your vows – whatever religion or location that might be.

Chloe Curry: Creation is the birth of something, and something cannot come from nothing. When someone creates something: a painting, a poem, a photograph, the creativity comes from an idea, from a feeling, from emotion, or from a combination of ideas, feelings and emotions that are somehow ‘reborn’ from all our experiences and perspectives.

Introducing The White Room, bridal boutique Sheffield’s latest photo shoot with wedding and fashion photographer, India Hobson.

I had the most amazing photo book bought for me years ago, ‘Femme Fatale; famous beauties’ which showcased chic, sexy, and sophisticated women mainly in black and which, paid tribute to a century of feminine glamour, their feelings and emotions radiating through the camera to the viewer.

There is something very mesmerizing and something raw about black and white photography and something very beautiful too.

It was this, plus the work of world class fashion photographer, Peter Lindbergh that inspired me to shoot bridal in a different way.

Bridal photography is almost always shot in colour, as they are shot to sell a product, not a feeling or an emotion. I really wanted to strip all that back and use minimalistic black and white photography to capture the feeling of the woman in the gown, showing off fragility, delicate beading, powerful silks and romantic tulles.

The results? Powerful images which scream “less is more”.

We shot in the newly refurbished St Marie’s cathedral, Sheffield, literally opposite the boutique and added a little fantasy to the beautiful building by incorporating angel’s wings to the shoot, bringing a very ethereal and pure feeling to the shoot.

If you were already an avid reader of RMW way back in 2011 you may recall on-line dress design house Kitty and Dulcie, we had the exclusive on their initial launch.

Almost 18 months later they are still pulling out all of the reasonably-priced-frock stops with the new “Country Set Collection”, seven lovely gowns that are perfect for any bride on a budget or even as a second dress. (Yes, I did just actually say that…..but you may want a short flirty number for dancing?!)

I love the tongue in cheek styling, makes me want to don something pretty, flounce around the garden and pout seductively whilst perusing the pages of Wuthering Heights…..

KItty-and-Dulcie-Baroness-portrait

Kirsty and Shelley of Kitty and Dulcie: Our First Strictly London Collection was so well received by our brides and we have learnt quickly what our customers want and like and so it was natural to seek our inspiration for the new collection from them. For the rest of the new collection we wanted something new, so the 60s inspired short lace Lady Penelope and the 2 new long dresses bring more choice to our brides.

Sometimes inspirational shoots can be guilty of being a little bit non-translatable. By that I mean it’s hard for a couple planning a wedding to recreate a look in ‘real life’ that they have seen in a glossy or on screen.

When Charlotte Harley Bridal Couture and Sarah Vivienne got together they were determined to showcase the latest bridal range from So Sassi in a way that would be not only super stunning and pretty but also really relevant to real people. The gowns are divine and the headpeices by Flo & Percy and Miranda Templeton shine.

01

Sarah Vivienne: It didn’t take me long to say ‘yes’ when Charlotte from Charlotte Harley Bridal Couture asked if I’d shoot her new collection of ’So Sassi‘ gowns. So Sassi is a diffusion line by renowned British designer Sassi Holford and has rather a lot of gorgeous going on. Did someone say peplum?

02

Charlotte’s brief was for something fairly simple with wide appeal but to do it in an inspirational, slightly unusual way. Something of a dichotomy but we love a challenge!

03

We considered what was currently popular in weddings. We talked about how outdoor ceremonies are becoming more popular. And we chatted about how natural styling and green colour schemes are filtering through from interiors and fashion into weddings.

Which all led to us thinking that something with a woodland style might be fun.

04

There’s been a surge of woodland wedding inspiration of late but in reality much of it isn’t achievable for the UK bride. There are very few woodland wedding venues, let alone with marriage licenses, and we don’t really have the weather for it either.

05

But we loved the concept so set about finding ways to make an outdoor theme work for a classic, indoor wedding.

Rushton Hall, one of Northamptonshire’s most in demand wedding venues, has beautiful grounds so was a perfect location.

06

We pulled together a brilliant creative team of Northants wedding suppliers who helped us create an elegant interpretation of a woodland theme so that it fitted the brief and perfectly suited the surroundings.

07

Evergreens. Moss. Berries. Twisted willow. Bark. Feathers. Textures. Anna from Julie Anna Flowers and Tracey’s from Nothing But Lovely created table settings with nuances of the woodland theme along with fresh flowers and succulents to balance the rusticness with something elegant. A moss covered table number. Hobbycraft is a wonderful place!

08

The textures of the paper, ribbon and real wood blocks are delightful ideas for woodland themed stationery…

09

It’s all about how your cake is presented right now and Katie from Couture Cakes did a fantastic job of styling a woodland themed dessert table. I loved the use of the stone bench but it would look great inside too. Meringue mushroom anyone?

Did you know RMW designer favourite Charlotte Balbier has a new collection coming soon?

Oh yes she does.

It’s called “A Decade of Style” and is aimed at the bride of the next generation – “confident with her choice of gown she glows with a beautiful edge of elegance”.

Yes – that’s you lot all over…..all a glow with your edgy elegant-ness.

Each gown has an identity, a distinct look and feel, it’s own story behind the magic; The collection captures the imagination and that’s just how Charlotte intended when designing each fashion forward piece with the bride in mind. Each bride embarks on a journey and each bride is consumed by love, and they all have their own consuming love story to tell….

Charlotte-Balbier-Libby-Dress

The Libby

Love is above all, the gift of oneself

In-between a halo of blush pink blossom they fell, deep into a summer of love like no other. An indulgent romance of an unconditional kind, just like the fairy-tale dreamt of many before her, Libby’s smile was voluminous and vibrant an obvious show of a woman in love. This tender love she holds is the kind to be wrapped up in an abundance of layers, layers of soft cloud like tulle to protect it from the forces of the world surrounding it.

cb

The Boadicea & Holly

“If you love two people at the same time, choose the second one, because if you really loved the first one you wouldn’t have fallen for the second”

A love so strong no-one can take it away, a willing and a bursting anxiety to please but who should she become? Which girl inside of her does he long for, the maze of games is a consuming tunnel and it’s only she who can decide. In a race to find herself; the fire mane adorned with siren lace? Boadicea is a lover so vivid she captures his imagination. Or the subtle mysterious beauty of Holly? So intriguing she holds a powerful energy over his dynamic ways. A decision of endless love is a painful one to make.

Uh huh – your gown can have it’s very own love story people.

And how gorgeous is the lace back detail on the Charlotte Balbier Boadicea? I want one and I want one NOW.

More exclusive previews coming soon folks.

We do love an alternative colour palette here at RMW HQ, especially one that is both opulent and pretty. Stylist Elisabetta at Linen and Silk chose teal with accents of gold set against a neutral back-drop of white on white.

The gowns and statement jewellery are divine, such perfect choices for the romantic location of Ranger’s House. I defy any of you not to fall in love with the tulle polka dot and the intricate statement cuff – I know I have.

Elisabetta offers plenty of useful styling and planning tips throughout the post so make sure you grab yourself a cup of tea and a biscuit (or um…a few biscuits) and drop any styling questions or queries in the comment box below.

Enjoy you gorgeous lot you.

image

Elisabetta from Linen and Silk Weddings: The inspiration behind this photoshoot came about when I visited the actual location of this shoot – Ranger’s House. This opulent Georgian mansion, housing a rare art collection by Sir Wernher, is often used by mature couples or second marriages, so I decided to take on the challenge to show how a younger bride, with an appreciation for traditions and art, could style this venue in a fresh and stylish way, without compromising its integrity.

01

The Theme

When I first visited Ranger’s House, I was immediately struck by the amount of gold and the imposing painted tapestry hanging on the walls. One thing that is often hard to do with environments like this is introducing colour in a way that doesn’t clash or create a cluttered feel. After spending some time looking at the images of the venue, I picked on teal and accents of gold to bring out some of the tones and colours of the artifacts within the main hall of Ranger’s House, while graciously introducing more modern touches in the shapes of our props, table styling, and the stationery, all complemented by a neutral white base.

02

This vision was brought to light with the help of a fantastic team of suppliers, and then beautifully captured by photographer Fiona Kelly, who with her experience as photographic art director, added a creative and editorial flair to the whole shoot.

03

Styling

Our table was styled with linens and chairs by Jones Hire, and crockery and glasswear by India Jane, a home interior shop that has now launched a gift list service. I liked the elegant, yet less traditional shape of the plates, as it made the table, otherwise linear and minimal in its decor, look more dynamic. To add colour and tie in with the theme, we used aqua-coloured wine glasses and asked Reshmi of Anges de Sucre to create some cute teal macarons favors with gold speckles.

04

All our stationery, chair pompoms and balloons were supplied by Eagle Eyed Bride, purveyors of stylish stationery and décor. I briefed Katie asking her to think about a bride who is chic, elegant, loves art, but is modern at the same time. What she came up with is the perfect representation of the bride I had in mind. Katie created a stunning stationery suite that incorporates a modern element (chevrons) with a more traditional element (lace), which are gold-foiled for a high shine contemporary look.. The stationery in the Ranger’s House shoot became part of their Modern Metallics Collection. Eagle Eyed Bride also came up with giant gold initials as an alternative to the traditional guest book, and a contemporary table plan with hanging names for each of the guests.

05

Floral designer and stylist Jodie of Boutique Blooms interpreted the theme with some gorgeous white hydrangea and gypsophila, arranged on bold teal and gold vases – the focus of our table set up. For the bridal bouquets, Jodie and I agreed to explore the option of something colourful, yet modern and non-conventional – she created three bouquets with hydrangea, brunia albaflora & silver tree protea (the silver and green bouquet) and king protea and china grass (the single flower bouquet) which beautifully complemented the three bridal looks we had created.

06

Abi of The Abigail Bloom Cake Co. is the woman behind our stunning cake. Inspired by the room where we were shooting, she created a 5-tiers cake decorated with a hand-painted gold rose and leaves.

For our dessert table, we used votives and glass bowls from India Jane and a mix of my own sourced at a local store. Each jar was decorated with toffee popcorns (perfect for that gold look!), Pashmak Persian fairy floss sprinkled with edible gold gloss (an idea of the ever resourceful Sam of A Little London Wedding!), macarons by Anges de Sucre and white mint pearls.

07

The choice of dresses was utterly important for us. I’d seen a lot of vintage and lace this past season, and I really wanted dresses that were elegant and timeless, but also modern and fresh.

08

Blackburn Bridal offered three stunning gowns by Clinton Lotter and Sarah Janks, which we used to create a range of bridal looks to represent three different, contemporary brides – a confident bride (wearing ‘Garbo’ by Clinton Lotter, a strapless Graecian dress with an intricate gold belt), a sophisticated bride (wearing ‘Acacia’ by Sarah Janks with a stunning sheer back), and a young romantic bride (wearing a timeless spotty tulle dress by Clinton Lotter with an Audrey Hepburn feel and a sweet hair bow to add a touch of youthfulness), all styled by hair-stylist Hayley Frances and make up artist Carla Ramsey who worked together to bring to life the vision I had in mind for each of the three looks.

09

Our shoes were supplied by Upper Street – an online shop with a studio in London (by appointment only) where brides can design their own bespoke bridal shoes. For this shoot we used a glam platform peep-toe heel with white Italian satin and white snakeskin details.

All accessories were intentionally chosen from a range of bridal and non-bridal jewellery by Glitzy Secrets and Stella & Dot. Every piece was selected in relation to each bridal style and with the intention of giving our bride a modern romantic look that remains faithful to her youthful personality.

Advice

If there were a word of advice I would give to any bride trying to come up for a theme of her wedding is this: think about your personality and stay true to who you are. Look at the venue you have chosen and see if you can find something within (perhaps colours or patterns) that can inspire your theme. Once you have identified it, get a scrapbook or if you’re more technically savvy, head over to Pinterest and create your own moodboard thinking about as many elements as you possibly can. Once this is done, it will be a lot easier to narrow down your choices and stick to a theme that is truly you.

Crowning Glory

There’s something about this time of year that makes me seek out a whole new look – a kind of spring clean on the fashion and beauty front so to speak.

Be it a wardrobe sort-out, a spree at the Chanel make-up counter or a new haircut, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be participating in a full on hair and beauty make-over as soon as the clocks have gone forward.

And so with the return of blue skies and sunshine and the feeling of warmth on your face (I know folks, Spring might actually be here!) I have no greater pleasure in sharing the latest (and hottest!) round of glorious inspiration for your big day bonce.

Hell, why even wait? Why not try out some of these chic looks in the run-up to your nuptials – at your hen for example or even down the pub with friends.

Which one will be your favourite?

Chic Chignons

Much like the popular return to more traditional wedding dress shapes and styles à la K-Mid,we’re seeing more and more brides revisiting classic hairstyles for their big day too…albeit with a 21st century twist.

Top knots were huge last year and whilst they’re still in vogue, the lower simplistic chignon is the updo making waves right now.

Chic Chignons Wedding Hair Inspiration

The key to such a sophisticated hairstyle is to keep things sleek and smooth with the chignon finishing at the same level as the nape of the neck. Avoid integrating a parting into the styling of this look for a truly modern feel – if you find you need to include one however keeping it to one side still looks utterly chic.

Remember to keep things soft rather than pulling it back into something restricting and I promise you’ll look like a modern day ballerina. Lastly, for added interest try braiding your hair before pinning it into the chignon style – this is particularly flattering for those of you with finer hair as it adds the illusion of thickness.

Hang Loose

I was a bride who hung loose. Ummm…although the reality isn’t as rude as that statement sounds…

No ladies, we’re talking about locks left to cascade down your back as nature intended. Granted this particular look is more suited to those with longer hair but there’s no reason why those of you with mid-length or short hair can’t emulate this look either.

There’s something truly feminine about a bride with her hair down, like a medieval maiden or Robin Hood and his Marian. If anything though, this particular style is really very accommodating – providing your hair is in good condition. Make sure you get your mane snipped regularly in the run up to your big day so you can be sure that it’s in tip-top shape.

Hang Loose Wedding Hair Long Inspiration

Essentially it’s worth working with your natural hair state rather than against it – I finally accepted my curly headed state on my big day albeit brushed out slightly for a sense of volume.

If you’re nervous about your bonce appearing too flat then I’d recommend creating volume at the crown – if you’re blessed with thick luscious locks I envy you completely. Lastly if you’re keen to add a bit of interest to your flowing locks, why not add a simple headband or loosely braid your hair into a fishtail plait. Either way you can add or remove throughout the day for a different look.

Short And Sweet

A platinum pixie-cropped bride to be visited our pop-up shop in London recently and Team RMW promptly fell in love with her. She looked absolutely exquisite in our Boudica Double Headband and I was secretly more than a little bit envious that she didn’t feel the pressure to grow her hair for her wedding day.

And so I just had to include some short-haired inspiration for all of you cropped beauties.

Short and Sweet Wedding Hair Inspiration

Statement headpieces look brilliant on brides with cropped locks. Intricate headbands, floral crowns and carefully placed side combs are given the space to do their thing without interruption. Think about wearing something that reflects either the tones or material of your dress to bring the whole of your outfit together.

If you’re an edgier bride who’s keen to avoid looking overly ‘pretty’ why not punk it up instead. I love the editorial vibe that this model at the top is emanating here fresh straight off the catwalks yet it’s completely translatable to bridal too.

There’s no reason why you can’t have the illusion of an updo either unless you’re sporting a super short do that is. Pin and twist shorter sections in on themselves like in some of these pictures here for a more delicate ethereal look. Finish the look off with a beautiful necklace or two – after all you wouldn’t want your neck to get cold would you.

Embellished

This last collection of inspiration is all about embellishing your bonce.

We’re talking florals, precious headpieces, ribbons, grips and strategically placed pieces of jewellery. This is for the bride who isn’t afraid to shy away from the drama.

For 2013, floral crowns have given way slightly to different floral arrangements in hair – from small clusters of blooms around a half topknot like this peony and rose combination near the bottom here or swathes of flowers scattered across the back of the crown.

We’re also seeing floral inspiration in headpieces too – in a more concrete form. Be it delicate garlands of gold or supersized glitzy blooms, I just love a bride that integrates the natural element into her wider wedding outfit aside from her bouquet. If you’re going down this route then I’d suggest that you choose pieces that compliment your dress i.e glitzy pieces for sparkly dresses and more sedate headbands for simpler gowns.

Embellished Wedding Hairpiece Inspiration

Perhaps my favourite embellishment is the pinned lace caressing the head of this model at the top here. Elegant yet fashion forward at the same time, I mean just how perfect is this look – particularly for those of you wearing lace on your wedding day. I just wish I’d had the forethought to do this at my own nuptials.

If you’ve fallen in love with this look too then it’s worth asking your dress designer for a piece of material from which your gown is made to pin into your chignon. This brings a whole new meaning to the word dressed from head to toe in lace. Utterly gorgeous!

So which of the ‘do’s’ will you be choosing for your big day?

I so would have opted for the low chignon if I wasn’t the owner of an oddly shaped head – capuchin monkey anyone…

That said I particularly love the layered kirby grip look…it’s like art deco and fashionista all rolled into one. In fact I might just try this down the pub tonight…who’s with me?

We see it everywhere. We see it in many different forms from Dresden to Chantilly. Yes, I’m talking about lace. We love a lace gown here at RMW and as fashions change and grow and develop so does and will this magical world of lace. And we’re very excited about it.

Someone else equally as excited about this is Chloe from The White Room and she’s here to tell you lovely lot more about new trends and how to work this beautiful material to your advantage.

Chloe teamed up with photographer Cat Hepple to bring this gorgeous shoot to our pages.

Creativity And Styling

Chloe from The White Room: The concept of the shoot was to embrace the huge trend for lace within the industry but try to bring it to a modern and fashionable edge, allowing elements of lace to be present without necessarily being the whole gown, adding hints of colour or quirky touches to make it more than just ‘another lace dress’. We wanted to really bring to the forefront the femininity and softness of the gowns and show that less, can be more and a little creativity and styling.

What I love about the designers stocked at The White Room is just that, their ability to design a gown with the overall end look in mind, selecting the fabric which makes the gown so special, rather than sticking bits of lace on a gown and expecting brides to buy into the ‘vintage lace’ dress. They have thought with detail about what lace suits each cut of gown and what is needed to make a bride fall in love with quality, style and design.

Honour Stephanie Allin

Honour

Honour is a very strong gown for The White Room for 2013 by Stephanie Allin. One that can be worn so many ways and allows the romance in the full tulle skirt to peek through the powerful lace panels and look timeless and memorable. Many brides come to us and say they want ‘vintage’ – my interpretation of this is now to mean ‘timeless’ and Honour resonates with that. Brides love the higher neck line and the variation of adding belts, sashes and veils. We paired it with a soft birdcage by HM Veils and a blush sash to emulate the look of the shoot, feminine and pretty.

Galilee by Cymbeline

Polka Dots

Galilee by Cymbeline is a wonderful gown, quirky as she is feminine, the lace is so soft and delicate, but the polka dot makes it fun and kooky. We paired her with a few styles of the 1920’s inspired Juliette cap veil, one with the full flower and the other with tumbling layer of contrasting lace for the more full on lace look. The movement in the gown is there to see and is perfect for the bride whose priority is comfort and wear ability with a hint of sensuality – the open back is to die for!

Sunset by Stephanie Allin

Fashion Forward

Sunset by Stephanie Allin is one of my favourite gowns for 2013 – the oyster pink chiffon is just amazing and the cut of the gown is so fashion forward with the drop waist corset and strong line on the bust, she is a fashionista’s dream! We paired with the bespoke ‘Sunset’ veil (at The White Room). This gown pairs brilliantly with gold, bronze and blush accessories, perfect with Rachel Simpson ‘Esme’ and ‘Ginger’ shoes which White Room brides love.

Dominique by Sassi Holford

Embrace Your Curves

Ah Dominique – who CAN’T love Dominique by Sassi Holford? As a new label to The White Room, we have fallen in love with Sassi’s designs and Dominique is one of our favourites, a super strong fishtail with some power in the lace (LOVE the polka dot skirt!). We paired simply with Debbie Carlisle ‘Lily’ and let our model do the work. Brilliant for the bride embracing curves, sensuality and style. Not for the faint hearted, but then again ladies, a White Room bride likes both to be seen and heard!

Hayworth by Stephanie Allin

Hollywood Glam

Which is why we LOVE Hayworth by Stephanie Allin – a stunning golden hue of sequin and tulle, she lives up to the Hollywood name and emulates sensuality with a hint of glamour and sex appeal. We paired with the birdcage, and like Sunset, carries gold and blush accessories amazingly well. Dare to be different and add a blush veil and allow the colours to shine or wear her with the very glam turban!

Eden by Jenny Packham

Beaded Beauty

Lastly and be NO means least… Eden! The stunning beaded beauty that is Eden. We’ve shot the platinum version before (see the Stripped to Core shoot on RWM in November 2012) but this shoot called for something softer and the ivory gown did that for us. We paired with DC Bouquets ‘Greta’ for the epitome in the 1920’s styling. What was amazing about Eden was as much as the light fell, the beading just shone.

We hope you love the shoot and the gorgeous gowns we hold at The White Room and how we see bridal as a genre of fashion, as a play thing of style, as an adventure in to self expression and as a work of art. I believe the images and video tell that tale and that brides will take risks and add their stamp on a classic – embracing romance, femininity and fun along the way!

How gorgeous is it to see lace used more subtly through these designs? Cat tells us that her inspiration for the shoot was based on this quote, “Every heart sings a song, incomplete, until another heart whispers back. Those who wish to sing always find a song. At the touch of a lover, everyone becomes a poet.” And I think it’s just perfect. It mirrors the delicate designs and screams for a bride who wants to be traditional but also have a little bit of a quirky edge.

Make sure you watch the video too to see the dresses in action.

Do you have a favourite? I’m very attracted to Sunset and that amazing veil.

Bridesmaids Fashion Inspiration Post

It seemed only five minutes ago that I was writing this piece about bridesmaid trends and sartorial advice for your big day.

How time flies eh?

Given that it’s been nearly a year since the aforementioned blogpost, I thought it was about time that I sat down and shared my latest musings about the hottest and most popular bridesmaids’ looks for 2013 and beyond.

Mismatched maids and ombre colour palettes are still ruling the roost but we’re also seeing the emergence of some new trends too and this makes me happy. The more choice that you lovely ladies have the better in my opinion. After all it’s all about having your day your way.

I’d love to hear what you girls think. Will your maids be channelling any of these looks on your big day? Perhaps you’re in a bridesmaid fashion rut – maybe I can help…

Let’s get cracking then.

Coral Crush

Poppy, blush, peach, the faintest tinge of tangerine all the way through to apricot – the coral crush palette is so versatile that it can be interpreted in so many ways. And girls, right now, this is the colour of the moment both on and off the catwalk.

It’s modern, it’s slick and coral toned frocks will sure as hell pop against your ivory hued gown. Admittedly some of your girls might be a little intimidated by the vibrancy of this shade but there’s no need to fear. For you see this is a trend that harmonises perfectly with the ombre effect so beloved of last year.

Coral Blush Pink Bridesmaid Dresses Palette

Fair headed ladies look their optimum best in lighter tones – blush pinks and the palest corals, whereas girls with darker manes are able to carry off the more intense hues too. I’d also recommend keeping footwear neutral but if you fancy vamping it up then metallic tones are the way to go.

Of the maids that I’ve seen sporting this look, I’ve noticed that their bouquets have been kept discreet and have been composed of white, ivory and and blush tones. I’d really love to see a coral crush girl with a blousey posy of the pinkest peonies – there’s nothing quite like a colour clash to make a statement now is there…

Chic And Sweet

I’m actually delighted to see that modern day brides no longer succumb to the fear that their best girls will outshine them on their big day. Instead we’ve seen a whole heap of gorgeous maids in chic frocks that wouldn’t be out of place at a cocktail party.

And why the hell not.

This particular style looks most effective in a monochrome colourway – be it the softest ebony or the starkest ivories but there’s no reason why it wouldn’t work in navy or hunter green if you wanted to introduce a bit of colour.

Contemporary Chic Bridesmaid Dresses

This particular style looks most effective in a monochrome colourway – be it the softest ebony or the starkest ivories but there’s no reason why it wouldn’t work in navy or hunter green if you wanted to introduce a bit of colour.

‘Chic and Sweet’ looks just as effective in longer lengths as well as with knee length frocks; the look is minimal with the barest of accessories and compact florals. The beauty look should be polished with dewy complexions and longer hair is best swept up into chic tousled chignons. Finish off with a dash of pillar box red lippy.

Using monochromatic shades is not only incredibly flattering but is a surefire way to imbue your day with a distinctly modern edge too. Perfect for those brides hosting a contemporary city soiree through to the most luxurious cocktail extravanganzas.

Hot Metal

My favourite…can you tell?

It’s sassy, it’s flirty, it’s like having several human glitterballs at your side for the whole of your big day but my golly it’s fun.

Sequins seem to be the order of the day lately; even the high street seems to be falling over itself to nab a slice of the action and the French Connection dress at the bottom here is proof that they can do it well. This can only be a good thing if you’re a bride (or bridesmaid) that doesn’t want to venture down the traditional maid sartorial path.

Metallic gold silver sequinned Bridesmaid Dresses

Perfect for Christmas or Winter weddings (it’s party season after all) but there’s no reason why you couldn’t sport the glitzy look at other times of the year either. Hot Metal looks best utilising the mismatched trend too – it adds variety and prevents your maids looking like one blocky wall of sparkle.

I particularly love the mixed up metallic pencil skirts with the lace blouses in the middle – it shouldn’t sound like it should work but it looks immense.

Sorbet Shades

Sorbet Shades is a slight variation on last year’s Bohemian Rhapsody style in that colour has made its way into this particular trend albeit subtly.

We’re talking lemon yellows, blush pinks, creamy caramels and tantalizing taupes; ‘Sorbet Shades’ is the ultimate in feminine. This look works best with longer gowns although shorter frocks can be beautiful too. A truly successful ‘Sorbet Shades’ maid is one that is decked out in a gauzy fabric that flutters in the wind.

Sorbet Shades Peach, Lemon, Blue, Lime Bridesmaid Dresses Neutral

The beauty of this bohemian inspired trend is that it caters for everyone – be it body shapes or colourings – since its effectiveness lies in variety. Different prints, hues, lengths and styles; there really aren’t any rules.

Accessorise with plenty of blooms – floral crowns look wonderful on Sorbet maids as do clutches of unruly foliage and wild flowers. I also love the pairing of the silk frock at the top here with the orange leather belt so don’t be afraid to make your ultra girly frock that bit edgier with some well chosen accessories.

So what’s your favourite?

Are there any maids’ trends that you simply can’t stand?

Are you a bridesmaid that’s going to be sporting one of these looks later this year? I’m lucky enough to be a ‘Chic and Sweet’ maid later this year on New Year’s Eve no less!

Excited doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Afternoon lovelies!

How was your weekend? Can you believe that it’s Monday already and that it’s raining again. Hopefully you’re not suffering from the blues but if you are then we have something for you that should put a smile back on your face.

We have something a little bit different for you this afternoon instead of the inspiration post that I usually share with you and it’s gorgeous.

When photographer Veronica Hansen sent over the new ‘Summer Heart Collection’ shoot by bespoke bridal designer Otaduy I begged Charlotte to allow me to share it with you folks.

Think of warm summer nights, the sweetest love memories, ethereal beauty and hot skin on skin.

Not only are the gowns and delicate headpieces absolutely exquisite but I also fell in love with the brand’s philosophy, with their approach to both life and weddings. I’m not going to go into any more detail here, instead I urge you to read what they have to say for themselves below…ultimately though it’s all about your day, your way.

Veronica Hansen Wedding Photography

The Beginning

Otaduy was born on a top-floor apartment on Keap Street, NYC one summer night with friends, music and photographs. The idea evolved until it finally took form in 2011.

Our firm takes its inspiration from moments like these snapshots that remain and also from those little things we enjoy doing such as taking an espresso in a glass cup, wearing red lipstick to go to the cinema or riding a bike while listening to music on a mild spring night. Our collections are designed to celebrate a special date or any date that deserves to be celebrated.

Bespoke Wedding Dress Otaduy Barcelona Spanish Bride

We appreciate the beauty of simplicity, of subtlety. We pay attention to detail and each one of our pieces is unique, made with love and dedication. Our collections are timeless using pure lines and simple cuts that are inspired by the natural world. We use lightweight fabrics as silks and crêpe, to give our dresses a slight air. In every detail, we transmit some of us, of our rituals.

Delicate embroidery in silver thread and old gold give our dresses that vintage touch that is reminiscent of old black and white photos. And our Minerva dress is a nod to the past of the nymphs in ancient Greece. We design collections to celebrate a day that promises to be special, or simply a moment that they deserve.

Veronica Hansen Wedding Photography Vintage Spanish Inspired Wedding Dresses Otaduy Barcelona

All the dresses are designed and handmade to order in Otaduy’s Barcelona Atelier. The headpieces are also made in the shop, where we adorn the same fabrics that our dresses are made from with jewels and other embellishments. Otaduy’s style is minimalist, soft, romantic and special, with unique details that make brides feel beautiful and like themselves.

Nordic Inspiration

Summer Heart, the Nordic band that inspired us this summer, gives the name to our new collection, born out of love and summer afternoons. Our little summer’s rituals full of the sea, the sun, and lots and lots of love.

Veronica Hansen Wedding Photography Vintage Spanish Inspired Wedding Dresses Otaduy Barcelona Lace Bridal Headpiece

This eclectic collection plays with transparent fabrics, open backs, and vintage touches. We’ve also experimented with two the idea of top and bottom pieces, combining them to look different and fresh. Varied mixtures of free-falling fabrics like satin, silk, tulle, trim and Chantilly lace are combined in unusual ways to make a diverse collection that’s joined by music, leisurely bike rides, the best sunsets and moonlit swims.

Claire Frank Bridal Make-up Artist Weddings

It is not another love story. It is your love story – imperfect, special, different from what you had imagined, and in fact, far better than what you thought. And there you are. In your own version of the princess bride; light and delicate. Or maybe like the wild child you are; rebellious, elegant, mischievous…

Yes you can wear whatever you want, be it dressed in white and wearing leather boots, or wearing braids and a flower crown. You can wear satin or lace, an open back dress or paint your nails black. It is your day. You set the rules. Or even better, you both set the rules. Because this is a tale of two people. A story that started with the first ‘I love you’ and now continues with that ‘I do’.

Fresh And Natural

Hair and Make-Up Stylist, Claire Frank:For the ‘Summer Heart Collection’ shoot we chose to create a very fresh and natural look both with the hair and the makeup. We accomplished this by first curling the models hair with a straightening iron before setting it with foam curlers whilst the make-up was being applied. After removing the curlers the hair was brushed out to give a more natural look with movement.

The makeup intended to accentuate the natural beauty of the model, highlighting her cheekbones and under the brow. The foundation, Face and Body by Makeup Forever, is great for getting good coverage while keeping a very natural look, keeping her skin looking clean and fresh.

Veronica Hansen Wedding Photography Vintage Romantic Lace Sheer Wedding Dresses Otaduy Barcelona Bespoke

We started the first look with the curls loose for a more romantic look then opted to pin the curls up into a 20s inspired flapper-esque bob which looked amazing with the head piece she was wearing producing a more fun look – great for a bride who wants a different look for the reception.

The second dress was inspired by a “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” feel, so we played with a looser curl, pinning a few strands away from the face. We stuck to the very natural makeup adding pink tones to the eyes and lips to play off the surrounding greenery.

I just had to include that last image of the secluded path at the end here. Doesn’t it make you dream of secret gardens and enchanted nights?

So what look was your favourite then? I adore that supersized lace headpiece with the pinned up curls – so dramatic yet so elegant at the same time.

And I want to hear all about your little luxuries…what makes your heart rejoice? Are you a lipstick wearing cinema-goer or do you revel in walks on a warm summer’s night to the soundtrack of cooing wood pigeons like me…

What inspires you and have you used any of these snippets of inspiration in your big day theme?

Come on tell us all about it…

Sunshine

A couple of months ago Lolly and I were sat in a cafe, laptops and notepads to hand, discussing new innovative ideas for Rock My Wedding (there were also hot chocolates involved, with MAJOR marshmallow toppings) and so began the process of creating our first RMW styled editorial.

About five minutes into the aforementioned discussion, a caravan dropped into my inbox. Well not literally obviously but images of a caravan that photographer Matt Bowen had recently renovated to be used at various events.

I liked the caravan very much, as did Lolly. And so it was inevitable that this retro holiday home on wheels would become a significant piece of inspiration for our first attempt at providing you gorgeous lot with some super pretty and easy-to-replicate ideas for the big day.

2013-06-24_0022

Both Lolly and I are huge fans of the 70′s era, from a fashion perspective possibly my most favourite era of all. I love the whole hippy vibe, flowers in your hair, loose plaits and long lashes, denim, crochet and maxi dresses in the softest chiffon.

As well as a sexy caravan we obviously needed a wild flower meadow to add the perfect backdrop for our 70′s inspired sunshine-filled desires (and um…the actual sun to put his hat on as it were). Lolly was also very keen to build a beautiful fort, the perfect outdoor space for lounging, reading and daydreaming – more on this later but if you are in anyway considering having a section of your wedding outdoors then this kind of thing provides an amazing backdrop for portrait shots or simply an area for your guests to relax during post ceremony drinks or the evening reception.

2013-06-24_0023

Our model Gabriella worked two hair and make-up looks, a soft natural glow complete with silver stars (I know – we all wanted to wear some) and a loose crimp/wave and two plait braids with a subtle bronze shimmery eye and a summery coral lip. We’ll be sharing all of the products used and how to re-create both looks next week on RMW so keep your peepers peeled.

2013-06-24_0036

Gowns were for the main part, floaty and bohemian from a selection at Naomi Neoh and Belle and Bunty. I also threw in a few shorter styles from ASOS, a crochet covered shift and a crinkled cotton bell-sleeved A-line, either would be amazing as perhaps a “second” dress but also as an addition to your honeymoon wardrobe.

2013-06-24_0026

Talking of honeymoon wardrobe, we also threw in some pretty prints that would work for the bar or the beach, and if you really fancied it, even as alternative bridesmaids dresses – we would LOVE to see a brides best girls in a cut-out-back star print… Floppy hat optional.

2013-06-24_0031

The flowers…oh my gosh the flowers. This saw Lolly and I shouting across desks to one another about the beautiful blooms we wanted, namely a giant bouquet of delphiniums, feminine hues of peach and pink and floral crowns…..only not just any old floral crowns. We wanted a variation – something altogether more “I have actually just stood in the middle of a field, picked a bit of everything that was available and this is what I’ve come up with”, we were thinking wheat and lots of natural greenery.

2013-06-24_0024

When Claire from Lily and May opened the back door of her van to reveal what she had created there were multiple squeals of delight. There may have also been some clapping.

Here she is to explain exactly what varieties were used should you lovelies fancy something similar:

2013-06-24_0025

Claire from Lily and May: Two very different floral crowns were created. Our first has a rustic feel, achieved by using a mixture of wheat, white nigella and astrantia. The second, a pretty romantic crown contains a mixture of pastel spray roses, nigella and pink rice flower with rosemary picked straight from the garden.

A bouquet of delphiniums in a variety of gorgeous pastels made a wonderful (and quite large!) bouquet. Apple tea carnations, astilbe, nigella, daisies, scented stocks and astrantia look great when used together to create a pretty pastel bouquet.

The White O’Hara (our favourite) which carries a beautiful scent is used on it’s own in the model’s hair.

2013-06-24_0027

The O’Hara rose was immense. And if you’re faced with what hair accessory to choose due to the multitude of options then this might be for you – undeniably beautiful as well as budget friendly.

Or of course you could opt for a delicate crochet headband and matching cuff as made by Evelyne at Urban Cosy. Or a single statement feather – also provided by Evelyne.

2013-06-24_0028

And you can’t not throw in a little bit of DIY to the Rock My Wedding mix, we’ll be sharing our button bottle DIY design and various downloadable designs such as our “Just Married” tin can labels (which should you have a caravan for W-day would go on the back of this instead of the car….obviously)

2013-06-24_0029

To capture all of this summer love we chose long term sponsor Ben from Touch Photography, this man knows how to capture a moment, and is an absolute pleasure to work with. He was even helping us pack boxes and un-stuff cushions at the end of a very long day.

2013-06-24_0030

Where as I tend to take responsibility for fashion, hair, make-up and general art direction of a shoot (this sounds very posh, what it means in reality is me stood in the middle of the flower meadow, getting bitten by scary insects and stung by nettles just so I can see exactly what shot we want the photographer to achieve…) Lolly is the styling princess. She and Lauren C from Fairly Light do things with plates, glasses and cushions that never fail to amaze me.

2013-06-24_0032

Lolly La Pop: Our 70′s inspired sunshine-filled desires were heavily influenced by the concept of the natural. Think of presents left by nature, vibrant feathers left behind in a flurry of flight, leggy grasses and ears of wheat, topped off with wild flowers plucked from hedgerows. We wanted to create a sense of a boho nomadic existence, of mismatched treasured items kept for posterity that were reminiscent of a magpie’s nest.

2013-06-24_0034

It was important that the shoot used items that that probably had a different use once upon a time but which had been hoarded, treasured, reused again. We used water jugs that doubled up as vases, a huge washing bowl and stools that had seen better days, old bottles covered in buttons, scraps of leather and remnants of the prettiest but fragile materials.

2013-06-24_0033

In the very early stages it was clear that we wanted to stage two table set-ups; one that even the most macho of muscle men would have been happy to sit down at and another that catered to our feminine side. Both were kept deliberately simple i.e. one plate and a knife and fork with no napkins or complicated arrangements. We couldn’t help but vamp the feminine table setting up a little bit with a lace tablecloth, 70s crochet cushions and some beautiful stationery by Abigail Warner which evoked a midsummer nights dream feel heavily influenced by dreamcatcher motifs and feathers. A plethora of cream, white, pink and lilac wildflowers were also added into vintage blue bottles to give a sense that they’d been scooped from nearby meadows.

2013-06-24_0035

The more masculine table used a palette of nutty browns, charcoals, creamy whites, sultry blacks and cobalt blues, bolstered by hard-wearing and functional denim cushions with homemade dreamcatchers, blocky patterns and 70s inspired square crochet bunting made by Urban Cosy that fluttered in the wind.

2013-06-24_0038

Love Lust List member Charlotte from Buttercream and Dreams made our eyes widen with amazement and our tummies rumble when she revealed her gorgeous cakes for the shoot. We’d discussed at length the idea of naked cakes lovingly heaped one on top of the other with an overwhelming rustic vibe. Vibrant red juicy fruits made one sugar dusted three-tiered creation pop against a background of wild grasses whereas the lilac icing of the other double height miniature cake harmonised beautifully with the faded blue of the caravan.

2013-06-24_0039

Perhaps my favourite set-up of the day and my styling piece de resistance to date was the ethereal fort that Charlotte mentioned earlier. I wanted it to speak of hot summer days with only a whisper of a breeze and the sound of cooing woodpigeons overhead. Transience was the key – almost as if you could stumble over it one day in a dappled glade but perhaps the next day it could be gone. Oodles of lanterns and wildflowers, heaps of denim pillows and gauzy wisps of chiffon slung over the low hanging branch of a cherry tree, a straw hat and a vintage tambourine were gathered together to make one of the dreamiest spaces I’ve ever set foot in. All this was finished off with the most exquisite handmade bunting by Urban Cosy strung nonchalantly from the branches.

Cover-Image-Dana-Bolton

Well, would you look at that. It seems 70′s bohemia styling is really having a moment right now, we celebrated all things floppy hat and floral crown in our Sunshine State Of Mind shoot and it seems dress designer Dana Bolton is also embracing the aesthetic.

And beautiful gowns, Dana is definitely embracing beautiful gowns. Her latest collection of six unstructured yet luxe pieces is exquisite and deliciously photographed in the June sunshine by Kirsten Mavric.

There is a plethora of hair and make-up inspiration as well as some super pretty bouquets and headpieces, I am expecting a veritable pin-athon this afternoon lovelies. And if you are a redhead? LOVING the subtle soft green eyeshadow for W-day as seen on model Victoria.

Do let us know which is your favourite dress and if you are tempted by any of the styling ideas in the feature.

I want that veil more than cake.

More than a double layer carrot cake with buttercream icing…..(And that’s my favourite flavour.)

2013-07-01_0006

Dana Bolton: I am, unashamedly, a complete lover of all things beautiful, bohemian and preferably expressed through beautiful dresses. This dress collection, small as it is, offers, I hope, something a little different for brides. The dresses here, I would like to think, offer inspiration to brides looking for a feminine, unstructured but still luxurious, very special dress.

2013-07-01_0001

Inspiration for the new dresses – I had in mind a feeling, very clear, of romance and natural beauty. That and a dash of mid summer magic, trying not to get too swept away on a cloud of whimsy, though we kept the styling quite minimal, concentrating on the dresses, the beautiful models, flowers and hairpieces, oh! and a field of June flowers in a magical rural location.

2013-07-01_0007

Organising the shoot as well as the dresses was an amazing pleasure for me. For the photography, I knew that I wanted to work with Kirsten Mavric on it. We’d worked on a shoot before and I adore her photography, that and the fact that she has impeccable taste! I trust her completely to create gorgeous images.

Donna Crain created a beautiful Boho Chic hairpiece especially for us. This can be seen worn with the Clara dress, a wonderful piece with side detail of flowers and feathers and beads. Donna also supplied the very, very pretty gold tone daisy head/forehead band also worn with the Clara dress.

2013-07-01_0002

Liz Jones at Blue Sky Flowers created a Floral crown that just took my breath away. It was simply just right! A little bit wild and pagan, contained and very beautiful. Liz also made the two bouquets, and floral posies.

Inspiration came from a definite line of iconic early70′s muses Biba, Stevie Nicks, wafting around in meadows of long grass with a floppy hat ….that kind of imagery came to mind. That and a touch of mythology with the Felicia dress looking a little elemental! Well it was almost mid-summer. It really was such fun sourcing the details, some of my best finds came from garden centres. Jars for flowers/candles, hanging decorations for trees, bird cages and much more.

2013-07-01_0005

The dresses we shot were a mixture of three new pieces and three from the existing collection. I can, and almost always do, offer bespoke versions of the dresses.

“Clara” worn with the fabulous hairpieces from Donna Crain, has a hand crafted bodice with layers of applique lace and 3D flowers made from the same lace. The shape, having a dropped waist, is so very flattering, a little bit 40′s, a shape used extensively in the early 70′s by the likes of Ossie Clarke, don’t get me started on Ossie!

A 40′s shape is flattering but has to be treated carefully and delicately as it can look a bit frumpy sometimes. The low neckline and neat beaded cap sleeves add glamour. The skirt is edged with a delicate lace trim.

2013-07-01_0003

“Flora” is a real mixture of sensual textures and details. The fabric is ivory sand washed silk that feels like peach skin! The lining is an apricot silk that glows through gently, barely there but adding a mysterious two tone effect. The cut is empire line and figure hugging. The laces are all appliqued on and follow the shape of the body to the hip area. I have used a variety of laces to build up the multi textured effect.

2013-07-01_0004

The hand crafted flowers under the bust use the peach under silk and laces. This dress is worn with my first foray into the world of veil making. The angelic vintage look veil is of silk tulle edged with a fine lace trim. The head piece is separate and can be worn alone. I used three different very delicate genuine vintage laces for the headpiece, this is where the Biba inspiration came in!

2013-07-01_0009

“Felicia” was a complete indulgence to make. I did not have my sensible hat on here at all! Hand dyed blush pink, the name came from a story illustrated by Kay Nielsen (turn of the century illustrator) called Felicia and the Pot of Pinks. The title just sticks in my mind. A backless slip of a dress with gold tone applique and bush pink flower lace trim. I think I had a romantic notion of an elemental mid summer nature sprite in mind ! Worn with the beautiful floral crown that Liz from Blue Sky Flowers made.

2013-07-01_0012

“Aurelia” and “Odessa” were shot together, we added a floppy hat to the look for Odessa. These are adaptions of the original designs in my collection, tweaking the designs a little. Aurelia has layers of georgette falling in handkerchief points. Odessa which has a tiered lace classic seventies look, has a separate lace jacket with fluted sleeves. These two designs both express a relaxed bohemian ethos, using some very beautiful French laces and silks throughout.

2013-07-01_0010

The last dress that our model Victoria, who I swear grew more beautiful as the day went on, wore was “Sofie”. Again this is a variation of the original in my collection. Sofie is a simple sweet dress in French Lace with an empire line and ribbon detail. There is feminine charm, I think, to this design that has a bit of a wow factor with the low back.

I bought myself a floppy hat with a dash of green ombre from H&M a few weeks ago, all I need now is a floral crown and THAT VEIL.

My favourite frock is the Flora if anyone is interested and I am now inspired to dine al fresco more often now the weather is getting gradually warmer…any excuse to put pretty blooms on a table and light some candles.

Jesus-Peiro-Seams-2014-Collection

I don’t know how you lovelies choose your W-day gown, I really don’t. There was quite enough choice when I was in the market for the ultimate frockage and now there are just so many beautiful dresses, it must be at least weekly (ok um…maybe daily) that Lolly and I can be exclaiming “Oh I would LOVE to try that on!!”

When a new designer collection drops into the RMW inbox it’s a bit like window shopping at a very fancy department store, you realise you can look but are no longer the right customer for such finery.

And that makes us a bit sad.

So instead we live vicariously through you gorgeous lot and love to hear what you will be wearing for the big day….or simply what you have your eye on.

2013-07-15_0001

This afternoon we’re sharing Spanish Bridal fashion house Jesus Peiro’s 2014 Seams Collection, a RMW favourite renowned for their simple yet chic designs.

I have already chosen at least five gowns that make me want to say “I DO” all over again, just so I could have the opportunity to strut one down the aisle.

(Same man obviously.)

2013-07-15_0002

Inspired by the tradition and history of the dressmaking atelier, the collection celebrates 25 years of cutting-edge haute couture under the Jesus Peiro brand.

2013-07-15_0003

Reflecting the current trend toward simplicity and minimalism, the Seams Collection is a fusion of design between the fabric and the line. Moving away from the richness and intricate detailing of embroidery, damask and embossing, to light and airy fabrics such as tulle, organza and gauze, the collection is the perfect balance of slender, willowy silhouettes and big volumes.

2013-07-15_0004

Accessories and details are the artisan elements that infuse the gowns with touches of dressmaking; white detailing imitates the reels of thread or the seamstress’ chalk markings while the black ribbons represent the structure of the mannequins, the pins and trimmings.

2013-07-15_0006

The Seams Collection express 25 years of dressmaking perfection and commitment, paying tribute to the meticulous work of the Jesus Peiro team in delivering unique, impeccable gowns time and again.

2013-07-15_0011

To celebrate the launch of Jesus Peiro’s 2014 collection, Morgan Davies Bridal is hosting an exclusive Spanish Soiree event in collaboration with a handpicked selection of the industry’s finest suppliers.

2013-07-15_0014

Taking place from 6.30-9pm on Thursday 1 August at the exclusive North London boutique, the event offers fashion forward brides a fun filled evening to find The One for their big day.

2013-07-15_0016

Tickets are priced at £10 and are strictly limited to 50 places but we have FIVE PAIRS OF TICKETS to give away for free so if you fancy an evening of tapas treats, champagne and delicious dresses then drop us a note in the comment box and we’ll see what we can do.

En-pointe-cover

You would have read in Lolly’s “The ballet” post what the inspirations for our most recent editorial were. We wanted to think feminine, think glamorous and think….pink. We wanted roses, an abundance of the most beautiful roses, we wanted the prettiest table decor, the most stylish gowns and completely covetable make-up and hair looks.

And why did we want and create all of these ideals? because we want you, our gorgeous readers, to be constantly inspired to have exactly what you want for W-day.

I’ll leave the decoration aspects to Lolly La Pop to take you through later in the feature whilst I go into more detail on the fashion, florals and fancy face paint.

2013-08-05_0013

We concentrated on two main looks for our ballerina Stephanie (yes an actual ballerina – she is also a model but danced for years, those were her very own pointe slippers and the whole team were very jealous of them, even Adam.) a flawless elegant more “traditional” swan lake-esque ballet bun paired with soft shimmering peepers and a pink lip and then a more daring (dare we say HOT) combination of gold glitter liner, a nude pout and a soft yet chic plaited up-do.

2013-08-05_0030

I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a huge fan of a full on pink palette for your face, especially eyeshadow, I’m always wary that if you chose the wrong tone and you could end up with lids that look sore, not sexy. Make-up artist Jodie Hazelwood showed us exactly how it’s done and as a result I’m very tempted to give the whole thing a whirl in the very near future (the exact products used and the how-to is coming to RMW tomorrow folks.)

2013-08-05_0014

Glitter liner and nude lipstick however are some of my evening wear staples and paired with some of the statement headpieces we picked out looked AMAZING. If you did fancy changing your make-up a little from perhaps a more natural “ceremony” look to something a little more edgy for your reception then this might be a viable option.

2013-08-05_0016

For foxy frockage we worked with two designers, Suzanne Neville for our classic ballet and Ritva Westenius for our slinky señorita. The single most important prop that we wanted (there was absolutely no room for negotiation) was a SWING. A gold shimmering swing tied with huge roses and ribbons. Adam made it himself using plywood and rope. It was amazing, and on Friday we’ll be showing you how you can make your very own.

2013-08-05_0015

As well as a DIY swing there was also a giant frame – perfect as a backdrop for your portraits or wedding photo booth. Our version cost about twenty quid and took all of about an hour to make, when we take you through how to build your own swing we’ll show you how to create this giant luxe frame too as we’re so generous and all.

2013-08-05_0017

The headpieces were from a selection by Halo and Co supplied via Ritva Westenius apart from our pink Scarlett necklace which worked well as a kind of beaded forehead crown – love a multi-use product. The Halo and Co statement mega-jewel design was a particular favourite and with a piece such as this all other accessories can be kept to a minimum or as we chose to style – forgoing any extra adornment altogether except for an extra length lash.

2013-08-05_0019

As Lolly mentioned yesterday, it seems that the decision to keep to just one variety of florals for the big day, has fast been falling out of favour. At RMW HQ we have been sensing a general feeling that roses are deemed as a bit unimaginative, a bit safe. We want to rectify this situation as we LOVE roses, there are so many types and colours and ways to display and bouquet-tie them that the options are endless.

2013-08-05_0018

For Stephanie’s first swing scene (wearing Suzanne Neville’s Cascade – will someone, anyone please wear this for their wedding and send us some pictures?!…) a loose bouquet of long-stemmed roses was created and I think you’ll agree, they look so ruddy romantic. Like something out of a (very stylish) fairytale. Love Lust List member and florist Lorraine at Wild Orchid Design understood our requirements perfectly and went on to create an equally beautiful posy of peach, pink and white using Juliet David Austin roses, O’Hara roses, Bombastic roses, Nigella, champagne lithianthus and sweet pea.

Needless to say, they smelt like heaven.

2013-08-05_0021

Did I mention all of the hanging decor and table stationery that you can download and use to create your very own? well you can, we chose tones of red and you guessed it…pink but you are of course able to print the designs on any coloured paper of your choice, the DIY tutorial is coming soon to RMW but as you can see, there are all kinds of uses, from chair backs to place settings to favours.

2013-08-05_0023

We’ve mentioned non-ivory or white gowns as an option for aisle strutting many times on RMW, please don’t discount a slightly unusual shades before you’ve tried them lovelies – The Gatsby by Ritva Westenius was Stephanie’s favourite gown of all, the peachy blush hue suited her skin tone so well and the back detail well…..I die.

2013-08-06_0003

Personally I couldn’t choose a favourite dress (I picked them all for the shoot in the first place as they were my favourites so it’s difficult) but if I was to pick a number that is as equally show-stopping as it is universally flattering then it would be Suzanne Neville’s Cherish. The cut around the bust line is perfection and the sleeve detail is so intricate and delicate you really wouldn’t need to wear anything else at all.

2013-08-05_0020

And who were we going to use to capture our outdoors dance production? Why Love Lust List member Jonny from M and J Photos of course. M and J specialise in European destination photography but also spend time shooting pretty weddings in the UK. Their style suited our vision perfectly and we are so pleased with the results, if you’ve not already chosen your photographers then make sure you take a butchers at their portfolio.

2013-08-06_0001

Lolly La Pop Talks Table Decor: Our ballet inspired desires were heavily influenced by the French interpretation of ‘Romantic’ Ballet. Think of traditional short white tutus, pointe shoes, Swan Lake, acrobatic movements, luxurious stage sets decked out in gold leaf, long-stemmed roses and bejewelled headpieces. Where the Prima Ballerina can simultaneously personify the delicate damsel and the powerful amazonian goddess.

In the very early stages it was clear that we wanted to stage two table set-ups; one that a prima ballerina would be more than happy to sup at – think super luxe and overly extravagant and another that would be kept deliberately simple but no less effective.

2013-08-05_0028

A nod to the ballet was made in several other ways too; in the form of pointe shoes, strung nonchalantly from the rungs of a free standing ladder accompanied by roses filling golden etched dishes and in our limited edition ‘dance’ prints on candy pink patterned backgrounds.

Swathes of pink linen, candy striped silken runners and decadent glassware, the prettiest colour pop plates and glistening golden cutlery were gathered together in much the same way as Sleeping Beauty’s dress was created by Flora and Merryweather in the Disney classic to create what I can only describe as the most romantic tablescape I’ve ever seen.

2013-08-05_0031

It was important to create a sense of contrast, of depth in this table setting hence the addition of the striped pink and white runner over the soft pink linen tablecloth and the hot pink glass plates against the golden cutlery. This hinted of the subtle nuances that are so often present in stage ballets. Add to that a plethora of the most perfumed hot pink, creamy white and blush roses and lithianthus of all different sizes in a classical urn and you’ve got yourself the grand finale.

2013-08-05_0029

The second tablescape was an altogether more simple affair using a nude pink and white colour scheme and oodles of cut crystal vases and etched glass. Cut glass is currently enjoying a resurgence at the moment (I for one am a sucker!) and is the perfect accompaniment to the old school garden and spray roses which filled the length of the table. We sourced our vases from eBay which we we picked up for pennies.

2013-08-05_0025

One of the beautiful things I love about the ballet is what is technically referred to as ‘Ballon’. Ballon is the appearance of being lightweight and light-footed while jumping – a sense of effortless grace, a weightlessness. It was this quality that I wanted to capture as well as create in the table settings.

2013-08-05_0027

We set about creating a deliberately simple set-up i.e. one plate and a knife and fork with only a subtly embroidered off-white napkin. It was important not to add too much colour to this tablescape to allow the flowers to shine albeit with a touch of help from the golden detailing in the napkin rings. Slender glassware with lace inspired etched detail finished the look perfectly and added a sense of lightness to the proceedings.

We couldn’t help but vamp the more sedate table setting up a little bit with a super sweet stationery detail inspired by ‘Love Hearts’ hung lovingly from silky ribbons on the backs of the wooden chairs.

The piece de resistance if you like.

2013-08-05_0024

Love Lust List member Julia from Freya’s Fancies more than stepped up to our requests for tongue-in-cheek biscuits that Miss ‘Gossip Girl’ herself would have been proud of. We’d discussed at length the idea of shaped biscuits iced in ombre shades – from icy white all the way through to blush pink to harmonise with the wider colour scheme. Whilst I loved the idea of miniature x’s and o’s, it was Julia that suggested that we needed to throw some hearts into the mix and they complemented each other perfectly.

Team RMW love the idea of boxing these delights into miniature parcels and bestowing them on guests as the sweetest wedding favour – guaranteed to keep the old and young alike entertained.

2013-08-05_0032

As with all inspiration shoots, versatility is incredibly important to us. With wedding budgets often pushed to their limits, we adore those finishing touches that not only are kind on the pocket but can be used in multiple forms too. We looped dozens of ribbons – from thick pink velvet, thin golden strands all the way through to candy coloured silk over a branch and threaded the ‘love hearts’ from the second tablescape onto them for the perfect piece of romantic decor.

We particularly love the idea of using this as the backdrop of a photobooth or even a wedding guestbook. Personalise this DIY one step further by customising the love hearts with your own sentimental phrases.

Amanda Wyatt The Ascot Collection The Ascot Collection By Amanda Wyatt.

You know how much we love a fancy frock right?

We love receiving a sneak peek of a brand new collection that is beautifully styled and photographed and then have the opportunity to feature all of the gorgeous gowns in the hope that one of you lovelies might just discover “The One” on these very pages.

This afternoon we’re sharing Amanda Wyatt’s new Ascot Collection, a delectable combination of soft layered tulle, luxury lace and simple yet elegant shapes. Amanda’s focus was on “textures that feel as beautiful on the skin as they look” and each gown has a very fluid silhouette, super flattering yet easy breezy to wear.

My favourite is the Freja, such delicate detailing – love the accessorising of statement earrings and sexy gloves.

And did I mention these dresses start from just £900? Oh yes they do.

I now officially want some blue/grey shutters for my home, not entirely sure where they are going to go but I’m going to figure it out.

This week’s inspiration post is short and sweet.

I say short for two reasons; namely because the focus of today’s piece is all about big-day barnet inspiration for you lovelies with cropped locks but also because the length of this post is somewhat…well um…condensed compared to the usual post that appears here every Monday afternoon.

“But why?”, I hear you cry. Bear with me folks, I’ll come onto that in a moment but first I want to address something with you.

How many of you have experienced the age-old ‘wedding day hair’ quagmire in the run up to your nuptials? The ‘I must grow my hair for the big day’ phenomenon so that you have more ‘options’ on the day itself? Hmmmm, I thought so….there’s a fair few of you out there aren’t there.

I’m not judging you ladies, I too succumbed to the imagined (?) pressure of growing out my mane for my wedding or more specifically my fridge – a decision made exactly one day after the boy proposed just so that I’d be able to ‘do more’ with my tresses without being hampered by any length restrictions.

I’m still not convinced it was the right choice. As it happened, I wore the majority of my hair down on the day so I’m not exactly sure that having a fringe would have made much difference. What will I think in five years time when I look back at the photos? Well that remains to be seen…

Here at RMW HQ we often receive impassioned cries for help from our dedicated RMW-ettes on a variety of different topics. But the one issue that keeps rearing its hairy head (sorry couldn’t resist!) time and time again is that of bridal ideas and inspiration for brides with barnets of the short variety.

And so I set out on a mission to assist you lovely lot by hunting down the best barnets this side of short-haired town…which brings me onto the reason why this particular post is so concise.

It seems, folks, that inspiration for those girls with shorter do’s is somewhat thin on the ground. In fact, what you can see here is the culmination of two full days of searching the interweb for gorgeous images of bobbed and pixie cropped brides.

Pitiful isn’t the word.

In fact I was dismayed that there weren’t more gorgeous images of short and chic bridal hair; which probably goes some way in explaining why so many of you choose to grow your hair out for your wedding. Despite looking like a street urchin myself with a bob (trust me I still haven’t got over the psychological scars caused by my mother taking me to the hairdressers to have my tumbling locks cut off whilst I was rendered mute by tonsillitis) I admire those women that can carry off a shorter haired look. In fact there’s nothing quite so chic as a wide-eyed bride with a pixie mop – see Audrey for the ultimate in sophistication.

So why is this so?

Is there an unspoken expectancy that a bride should have long hair on her wedding day in much the same way as we assume that she’ll be wearing a white frock to say her vows?

Is it purely a case of practicality in that it’s just so much easier to curl and tong and twist and pin when there’s more hair to play with? Do you feel more feminine, more comfortable when your tresses fall past your shoulders? Does your other half prefer you with a tumbling mane and are you influenced by their preferences?

I’m hoping we can have a bit of a discussion this afternoon as I’m really interested to hear other folks’ thoughts on the whole short-haired debate.

By my reckoning, short-haired do’s are the way to go particularly if you’re a bride that’s keen to integrate a statement headpiece into your outfit. Rather than your hair taking over the show you can allow your glistening pins, feather garnishes and glitzy circlets to shine against a sedate yet coiffed background. Plus a supersized veil against a gamine cut always looks a little bit twiggy, a little bit 1960s doesn’t it…

And you can’t beat the sixties now can you?

So are you a perfect pixie girl or a bobbed beauty?

Do you know how you’ll be styling your barnet on your big day or are you still at a loss for ideas?

Have you decided to grow out your mane for your big day and will you be lopping it all off afterwards?

I want to hear all about it!

All my love Lolly xxx
